Position Overview
The role of Regional Director of Operations supports West Region clinical trial sites located in Covina, Northridge, and Walnut Creek, California. This position operates remotely but requires regular travel to regional sites (approximately 30-40%). The work schedule is Monday through Friday, daytime hours, totaling 40 hours weekly.
Compensation ranges from $150,000 to $180,000 annually, based on experience, plus bonus eligibility. This role is classified as exempt under FLSA.
Key Responsibilities
- Assume full accountability for the regional profit and loss, managing revenue, margins, and EBITDA targets.
- Lead strategic and operational decisions optimizing profitability through collaboration with Site Directors.
- Manage financial performance metrics including budgeting, monthly reporting, variance analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Control regional operating budgets, handling fixed and variable costs, capital expenditure requests, and resource distribution.
- Analyze staffing models and operational volumes to ensure optimal labor deployment and efficiency.
- Review clinical trial budget agreements to identify renegotiation opportunities, prioritize high-impact studies, and select protocols aligned with regional strengths and strategy.
- Coordinate clinical operations with finance, accounting, and commercial departments to maintain financial alignment.
- Forecast backlog and pipeline status to support revenue and capacity planning.
- Supervise bottom-of-funnel conversion metrics to raise study win rates and expedite activations.
- Implement initiatives that boost productivity and profitability across the regional sites.
- Identify and propagate operational synergies and best practices region-wide.
- Develop and execute a regional operational strategy consistent with corporate objectives and company values.
- Acquire deep knowledge of each site’s history, operations, market position, and regional dynamics.
- Advise on opportunities for regional growth including acquisitions and capability expansion.
- Support commercial feasibility and sponsor relationship efforts.
- Collaborate with advisory boards and growth teams on therapeutic strategies and new site integration.
- Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing leadership teams at site and regional levels.
- Lead coaching efforts to enhance team performance, engagement, and culture initiatives, partnering with human resources and training departments.
- Promote operational standardization across sites to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with all regulatory requirements including GCP, FDA, ICH, HIPAA, and sponsor protocols.
- Ensure quality, data integrity, participant safety, and timely delivery of clinical trial data.
- Maintain accountability of shared services functions and represent regional interests in corporate strategic planning.
- Address challenges and advocate on behalf of the region with senior leadership and support functions.
- Represent Flourish professionally in all interactions with staff, clients, and vendors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 10 years in clinical research with at least 5 years in leadership roles such as Site Director or Regional Director of Operations.
- Strong expertise in clinical research methodologies and operational best practices.
- Proven leadership and management skills with a track record of coaching and developing teams.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency with Office365 and ability to write and evaluate Standard Operating Procedures.
- Competency in problem-solving, risk assessment, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
- Flexible multitasker capable of prioritizing competing demands and working occasional evenings or weekends.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle availability for daily travel.
Physical and Work Environment
- This position is remote with a home office setup.
- Travel to regional sites is mandatory, averaging 30-40% of work time.
