Job description
About the Company
Emterra Group is a growing, safety-first organization that plays an essential role in recycling, organics, and waste collection and processing, helping communities stay clean and protected. The company focuses strongly on customer service and safe operations, and it supports waste diversion and the circular economy. Emterra is also recognized as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers and is a certified diverse supplier through the Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council (CAMSC) and the Canadian Women Business Enterprise National Council (WBE).
Role Overview
The Recycling and Waste Centre Attendant works as part of a team that helps the public and commercial users sort, recycle, and dispose of materials correctly. The role involves guiding traffic through the site safely while ensuring operations run smoothly and in line with facility requirements.
Working Schedule
The recycling and waste centres operate 363 days each year. This is a permanent night-shift position, and candidates must be able to work a rotating pattern of four days on followed by four days off.
Key Duties
- Support the community by providing recycling services and information, with training provided.
- Work under the Site Supervisor to help the centre meet Metro Vancouver rules, regulatory standards, and company expectations.
- With training, make sure outgoing waste and recyclable loads meet the required facility specifications.
- Coordinate with the Site Supervisor and crew to track and manage material inventories so contractual and regulatory obligations are met.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with both public and commercial customers, including assisting with traffic flow at the site when needed.
- Assist in training new team members on site operations, outbound material requirements, and safety practices.
- Suggest ways to improve efficiency, service quality, and workplace safety.
- Work safely as part of a team in day-to-day operations.
- Take on additional tasks as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
Applicants should be motivated by environmental work and comfortable supporting an essential service. The role is mainly outdoors, in recycling depots or around the transfer station building, so candidates need to be prepared for that type of work environment. A strong safety mindset is essential. The company is looking for someone with 2 to 3 years of experience, ideally in a customer service-focused role, who is proactive, eager to learn, and able to communicate well in both spoken and written form. Experience operating small mobile equipment such as a forklift is helpful but not required. Candidates must also be willing to work shift schedules, including some weekends, and bring a friendly, hands-on attitude. A good sense of humour is considered an asset and is necessary.
Benefits of Joining
- Chance to work with one of Canada’s Greenest Employers.
- Competitive pay.
- Comprehensive health coverage, including medical and dental, depending on the option selected.
- Employee Assistance Program paid by the company.
- Opportunity to join an entrepreneurial team that is still growing and improving.
- Chance to contribute ideas and make a real impact.
