Recreation Specialist (Outdoor Recreation) NF-03

Role Overview

This position involves planning, organizing, and managing a wide range of outdoor recreational activities. Activities include but are not limited to cross-country skiing, hiking, biking, canoeing, camping, trips, skeet shooting, mountain climbing, and overnight recreational adventures. The role requires demonstration and instruction of techniques and equipment use to participants.

Key Duties

• Plan, schedule, and implement diverse outdoor recreational activities.
• Provide participants with guidance on techniques and proper use of recreational equipment.
• Collaborate with military installation, local county, and state officials to coordinate programs, acquire necessary licenses, and develop outdoor recreational areas.
• Prepare standard operating procedures and support annual budget and long-term planning efforts.

Employment Conditions

• Candidates must meet specific qualification, eligibility, and background standards.
• A probationary period of one year may be enforced.
• The candidate must be amenable to working evenings, weekends, and special Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) events.

Candidate Qualifications

• Experience or a mix of education and experience related to recreation program goals, methods, and understanding community interests is required.
• A bachelor's degree in outdoor recreation and parks, recreation management, youth/public/urban/community recreation, or special population recreation fulfills educational prerequisites.
• Highly desired qualifications include the ability to obtain and retain a Class 2 or 3 license (B, BE, D, or DE) for operating vehicles with or without trailers.
