Role overview
The City of Wagga Wagga is hiring a community-minded Ranger to join its Regulatory Services team in Mount Austin, New South Wales. This is a practical, outdoor-focused position where you will help protect public safety, support fair compliance, and work closely with residents across the local government area.
The role is varied from day to day and may involve responding to service requests, handling compliance investigations, supporting companion animal management, and contributing to community education. It is a permanent, full-time appointment.
What the job includes
- Managing frontline regulatory matters across the local area.
- Handling customer requests in line with service standards while representing Council professionally and respectfully.
- Supporting environmental, regulatory, and companion animal education activities.
- Carrying out inspections and investigations into possible breaches and hazards, including parking, street activities, dumped rubbish, impounding, bushfire hazards, and companion animal matters.
- Issuing notices or penalties where appropriate.
- Taking part in the after-hours on-call roster for stock on roads and dangerous dog situations.
- Ensuring actions are aligned with relevant Acts, Regulations, Codes, and Standards.
- Preparing statements and other evidence documents for briefs relating to prosecution matters.
- Appearing in court as a prosecution witness when required.
- Working with supervisors and managers to recommend legal action, prepare affidavits and evidence, and support legal representatives and court processes.
What you need to succeed
The council is seeking someone who can apply legislation confidently while still dealing with the public in a calm, balanced, and respectful way. You should be comfortable working in the field, managing difficult discussions, and making sound decisions in compliance situations.

- One permanent full-time vacancy is available.
- Total remuneration is $2,582.98 gross per fortnight, with progression opportunities up to $3,099.58 gross per fortnight plus superannuation.
