Job description

About the Role

This leadership position is based in Innisfail, Queensland, offering the unique opportunity to lead a team managing conservation efforts within the iconic Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. The role encompasses protecting and overseeing national parks and reserves, including regions around Mission Beach. You will be actively engaged in fieldwork amidst tropical rainforests, beaches, waterfalls, and portions of the Great Barrier Reef, blending hands-on management with community collaboration and conservation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and support a small team of rangers responsible for national park management and protection operations.
  • Plan and execute programs related to fire management, pest control, estate administration, visitor services, and asset maintenance.
  • Coordinate conservation initiatives, infrastructure upkeep, compliance checks, and emergency response operations.
  • Manage resources effectively, including budgeting and staff mentorship to foster a productive team environment.
  • Engage with First Nations partners, local governments, community organizations, and other stakeholders to build cooperative relationships.
  • Balance field deployment with office tasks such as planning, reporting, and overseeing project delivery.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience in natural resource, land, or protected area management is highly advantageous.
  • Adept at managing teams in challenging outdoor settings.
  • Possession of a current unrestricted manual driver’s license is essential.
