It collaborates closely with governments and other partners to provide services and advice related to migration, striving to create a professional and inclusive workplace.

Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Chief of Mission and Chief Migration Health Officer, and with technical support from the IOM Teleradiology Center, the Radiographer will conduct chest X-ray screenings for refugees and migrants as part of IOM's Health Assessment Programme in Accra. Key Responsibilities

  • Capture superior quality chest X-ray images as requested by physicians or radiologists, adhering strictly to IOM and international radiographic and resettlement country protocols.
  • Provide clear explanations of X-ray procedures to applicants, prepare equipment and examination rooms, verify applicant identity and biodata accurately before imaging, and label images precisely to prevent errors.
  • Implement proper radiographic and radiation protection methods, such as pelvic shielding, specialized lead protection for pregnant women, applicant positioning, beam collimation, and appropriate exposure settings, while monitoring applicants throughout the procedure.
  • Process and review digital images using CR/DR machines, ensuring image quality and repeating shots if necessary. Escalate urgent findings to relevant medical personnel promptly.
  • Maintain consistent high-quality X-rays through proper technique, quality checks, staff training, and acting as quality assurance focal point when required.
  • Ensure radiation safety for applicants, staff, and the public by complying with radiation protection protocols, regularly wearing and assisting in monitoring personal radiation badges, and liaising with authorities as needed.
  • Participate in routine quality assurance and maintenance of X-ray equipment, coordinating with technical service providers for repairs and service.
  • Optimize Radiology Unit workflows by implementing quality control measures, improving standard operating procedures, and ensuring swift, accurate X-ray processing and report delivery.
  • Prepare daily worklists and barcodes, verify applicant identities, offer radiographic counselling, upload images to the e-Medical platform, and manage data burning onto CDs.
  • Compile and maintain statistical reports on Radiology Unit activities and ensure proper documentation and record-keeping.
  • Coordinate radiology reading workflows with Radiologists and Teleradiology Centers and provide chest X-ray reports to panel physicians.
  • Support infection control initiatives and uphold cleanliness standards within the Radiology Unit.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance the quality, efficiency, or safety of radiology procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
