Quantity Surveyor / Estimator - Remote South Africa

Overview

Optimal Maintenance & Construction is a rapidly expanding property maintenance and refurbishment company serving estate agents, housing associations, and private landlords. We aim to streamline property maintenance by combining operational excellence with outstanding customer service. We're seeking a motivated, commercially savvy Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join our remote team in South Africa, working UK hours with a dual-monitor setup.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage proactively with clients to secure quote opportunities and tender requests.
• Prepare detailed, clear, and itemized quotations using our CRM system, including desktop quotes when possible to reduce costs.
• Conduct site visits to scope required work for accurate estimates.
• Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
• Follow up on pending quotes to enhance conversion rates.
• Manage quotation bookings in the CRM, assigning appropriate trades and scheduling geographically.
• Issue precise job orders to engineers and supply chain teams with all necessary details.
• Coordinate materials, access logistics, and client communications to ensure smooth project execution.
• Serve as the main point of contact for clients throughout the project, monitoring quality via photos, feedback, and completion verification.
• Address and escalate issues proactively.
• Provide clients with regular job summaries and updates as requested.
• Achieve weekly and monthly KPIs, including a quote conversion rate of 25%.
• Participate in daily team meetings and report on performance metrics.
• Continuously seek improvements in speed, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.

What We Are Looking For

• Experience within construction, refurbishment, or property maintenance, ideally as a Project Manager, Estimator, or Quantity Surveyor.
• Deep understanding of building services, trade workflows, and client expectations from quoting through to project delivery.
• Commercially focused with confidence in managing costs and proactively driving revenue.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Highly organized with the capability to handle multiple projects and quotations with attention to detail.
• Proficient with CRM systems, scheduling tools, and Microsoft 365 applications.
• Ability to remain calm and prioritize effectively under pressure.
• A self-driven individual who takes full ownership of responsibilities and continuously seeks process enhancements.

Additional Information

• Employment Type: Full-time, permanent
• Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:30pm (aligned with UK time)
• Location: Remote - candidates must have a workstation with two monitors.
• Salary Range: 26000 to 34000 South African Rand per month
