Role Overview

The Quantity Surveyor will work closely with the commercial and construction teams to ensure projects are successfully delivered. This involves managing client relationships, maximizing financial returns, and effectively handling associated risks.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare tender documents, evaluate subcontractors, negotiate and finalize subcontract agreements.
Oversee financial and commercial dealings with subcontractors through to final account completion.
Maintain accurate site records and manage documentation control.
Capture and record site measurements diligently.
Assist with financial forecasts, setting targets, and reconciling contract values.
Draft valuations and variations with adequate supporting details, agree on changes during project progress.
Update and submit projected final accounts promptly.
Work collaboratively with site management to address commercial issues and provide constructive challenges.
Implement commercial strategy effectively.
Safeguard the company’s commercial and contractual rights and entitlements.
Engage in contract value reviews independently.
Identify, evaluate, and manage risks and opportunities in project delivery.
Gain knowledge of insurances and warranties related to construction contracts.
Participate in cash flow management efforts to maintain healthy finances.
Provide support during tendering procedures as necessary.
Supervise and mentor Assistant and Trainee Quantity Surveyors, reviewing their outputs.
Ensure meticulous maintenance of site records and document control systems.
Demonstrate clear and effective written and verbal communication abilities.
Utilize relevant technology platforms efficiently.
Be proficient with the Standard Method of Measurement.
Exhibit strong commercial awareness and take ownership of responsibilities.
Apply time management, organizational, interpersonal, and negotiation skills professionally.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

Possession of a degree-level qualification and progression toward professional accreditation.
Familiarity with JCT (Joint Contracts Tribunal) contracts.
Proficient in letter and report writing.
Effective negotiation capabilities.
Experience with contract value reviews (CVRs).
Completion of a 2-day safety appreciation course that includes contract and commercial awareness.
Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or eligibility to join.

Preferred Experience and Knowledge

Background working on larger Design and Build projects.
Understanding of claims and dispute resolution processes.
Knowledge of contract law principles.
Exposure to contracts valued above €15 million/£15 million without full responsibility.
Experience managing traditional contracts.
Supervisory experience over Assistant Quantity Surveyors, including sign-off of Standard Method of Measurement or measurement-related issues.
