We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Lab Technician for a Whanganui-based manufacturing site. Reporting to the Quality Manager, this position plays a key role in confirming that every pipe and joint produced on site meets strict quality and environmental expectations. The work is varied and hands-on, combining laboratory-style testing, accurate measurement, and close collaboration with production and quality colleagues to resolve issues and improve processes. The role has a direct impact on infrastructure products used across New Zealand.
Key Duties
- Carry out post-production measurement and testing on pipes and joints, including hydrostatic pressure tests, thermal stability checks, reversion testing, and butt weld/fitting joint testing.
- Use precision tools and equipment such as vernier callipers, micrometres, pressure gauges, and temperature gauges.
- Perform material composition testing, including OIT analysis.
- Record test outcomes and prepare reports for clients.
- Calibrate and confirm the accuracy of measuring instruments.
- Look for ways to streamline and improve testing methods.
- Support training for the team and help identify skill gaps on the factory floor.
- Take part in quality improvement initiatives.
What We’re Looking For

You should be comfortable with medium-weight manual handling, including lifting and loading samples, and have solid computer skills, especially with laboratory test software. A current driver’s licence is required. Strong communication skills, a team-oriented mindset, and meticulous attention to detail are important. A forklift licence and forklift operating experience are beneficial, though not mandatory.
Benefits
