Public Health Intelligence Analyst (Gambling Harm Prevention)

Role overview

Torbay Council is seeking a motivated Public Health Intelligence Analyst to join its Public Health Team on a fixed-term basis until 1 September 2028. The post supports the national gambling-related harm prevention programme across Devon and Cornwall, helping turn complex and emerging data into clear intelligence that can guide public health action and interventions.

What the role involves

• Analysing and interpreting complex and developing datasets to produce accessible public health intelligence.
• Using evidence to better understand population needs linked to gambling harm, health inequalities, and local priorities for action.
• Supporting the planning and delivery of interventions through clear analysis and dissemination of findings.
• Working closely with partners across Devon and Cornwall, including local authorities, OHID, the NHS, and voluntary and community organisations.
• Helping represent and advocate for the gambling harm prevention programme as an emerging public health priority.
• Keeping up to date with current and forthcoming national developments in gambling-related harm prevention.
• Collaborating with treatment services, voluntary and community sector organisations, and other stakeholders to support programme growth and success.
• Contributing as part of the Public Health Knowledge and Intelligence Team alongside specialists, analysts, and practitioners covering other public health areas.

Skills and knowledge

• Strong analytical capability with experience using data or information to improve population health and wellbeing.
• Understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements.
• Confident communication skills with the ability to adapt to different audiences and methods.
• Good planning and organisation, including managing competing priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to write reports and deliver presentations.
• Specialist understanding of epidemiology, statistical techniques, and related procedures.

Experience and qualifications

• Experience handling information within a local authority, the NHS, or a comparable public sector setting.
• A degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, or a closely related subject.

Additional information

This position is offered on a fixed-term contract until 1 September 2028. The working pattern is 37 hours per week, with a hybrid approach in place, balanced around the need to attend essential meetings in line with the role’s responsibilities.

Applicants should be able to speak with members of the public comfortably and provide advice in accurate spoken English, as this is an essential requirement under the Immigration Act 2016 (Part 7).
