Role overview

This is a chance to take charge of specification-led sales for a leading manufacturer of commercial LED lighting. Rather than pushing stock through wholesalers, the role focuses on identifying project opportunities, securing product specifications and guiding lighting projects from the first conversation through to completion.

The business is investing strongly in growth across the UK and is recognised for product quality and innovation. The successful person will work across the North West, building trusted relationships with contractors, consultants, specifiers and end users to win commercially valuable lighting projects.

The patch includes Manchester, Liverpool, Preston and nearby areas. Projects commonly sit in the £5,000 to £100,000+ range and may include office refits, NHS and healthcare sites, retail schemes, student accommodation, hotels, warehousing, apartment schemes, public-sector work and external lighting installations.

Key responsibilities

You will own the project sales process from enquiry through to order and completion, working alongside internal lighting design and technical specialists. The role involves both business development and technical consultation, with a strong emphasis on creating long-term project pipelines.

  • Develop new commercial lighting project opportunities across the North West.
  • Build and maintain relationships with electrical contractors, M&E contractors, consultants, specifiers and end users.
  • Influence product specification on major commercial developments.
  • Advise customers on technical lighting solutions in a consultative way.
  • Support or produce lighting designs using Relux and/or Dialux.
  • Manage projects from initial enquiry through quotation, value engineering, order and final delivery.
  • Work closely with internal technical, design and customer support teams.
  • Create and maintain a strong pipeline of future project opportunities.

What the employer is looking for

The ideal candidate will already have experience in project sales or specification sales, preferably in commercial lighting or a similar technical specification environment. A background in managing commercial projects end to end is important, along with the commercial judgement needed to work in a consultative, customer-facing role.

  • Previous experience in project sales or specification sales.
  • Experience in commercial lighting or a comparable technical specification sector.
  • Ability to manage commercial projects from enquiry through to completion.
  • Strong relationship-building and business development skills.
  • Consultative selling style with sound commercial awareness.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Package and benefits

The salary for this position is £50,000 to £60,000 per year, with the advert specifically highlighting a £55,000 base salary, plus bonus, car allowance or company car, and additional benefits.
