Role overview
This position sits within the consult business and is centered on managing medium-sized or complex projects across delivery stages. The role involves coordinating project planning, design development, procurement, construction, stakeholder management, and budget control to support successful outcomes for clients and internal teams.
Key responsibilities
- Champion a safety-first culture by encouraging visible safe behaviours, sharing lessons learned, and using health, safety and wellbeing practices to support staff wellbeing.
- Apply strong knowledge of local health and safety requirements relevant to the project portfolio.
- Help maintain an inclusive work environment and support the wellbeing of team members.
- Set up and oversee quality systems that align with service excellence expectations.
- Lead delivery through the full project lifecycle, from initial brief and design development to planning, contractor selection, and construction execution against agreed milestones.
- Coordinate tasks and deliverables for senior leaders, associate directors, project teams, and client teams to ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
- Monitor project budgets, identify risks and challenges, and recommend appropriate mitigation actions.
- Support the longer-term growth and sustainability of the function or business unit.
- Take responsibility for positive outcomes for people, clients, and the wider environment, and hold others accountable to Mace values.
- Work collaboratively with design and consultant teams to complete responsibilities effectively.
- Lead project teams and stakeholders to deliver strategic KPIs.
- Network, innovate, and apply best-practice knowledge across Mace resources and internal knowledge platforms.
Requirements
- Demonstrated success in project management on medium-sized projects.
- Strong communication, presentation, planning, and project development capability.
- Solid experience overseeing budgets.
- Advanced skill in coordinating activities and working with stakeholders.
- Sound understanding of project management methods and practices.
- Strong communication and negotiation ability with a client-focused approach.
- Ability to manage internal budgets and fees while delivering agreed outcomes where relevant.
- Practical understanding of construction methods and sequencing.
- Bidding experience.
- Substantial background in project management on medium or complex projects, or in leading smaller projects.
- Experience in the construction delivery phase.
- Professional designation such as MCIOB, MAPM, MRICS, MICE, or a local equivalent.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in project management or construction, or another degree combined with equivalent professional experience or apprenticeship, with intermediate role knowledge.
- Appropriate construction skills certification card, or local equivalent.
- Membership of RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE, or equivalent development is advantageous.
- Experience delivering projects and programmes successfully during the delivery phase.
- Property or infrastructure project management background.
- Commercial and financial awareness.
- Experience leading parts of projects within large, diverse teams.
- Ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Understanding of how carbon and sustainability considerations affect project direction.
- Technical knowledge in a specific sector or market relevant to the role.
- Relevant technical qualification or certification for the portfolio.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and sector-specific rules.
- Understanding of consultancy, construction, infrastructure, and property markets, including estimating, scheduling, contracts administration, procurement, commercial controls, and reporting.
- Willingness to improve working practices and identify service differentiation opportunities.
- Ability to manage stakeholders and build effective internal and external relationships.
- Advanced communication, reporting, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Problem-solving and analytical capability for planning, estimating, contract, procurement, and design-related issues.
- Developed commercial and financial capability, including fee proposals and project workbooks where applicable.
