Job description
Role overview
BBVA’s New York Project Finance team is seeking a Senior Analyst to support the origination, structuring, and execution of project finance transactions across the US and Canada. This role sits at a junior level but includes meaningful exposure to deal work, from building presentations and tracking pipeline activity to contributing to executed deal documentation and running financial models for awarded transactions.
Key duties
- Support senior bankers with underwriting, diligence, and financial analysis for project finance opportunities in infrastructure and energy.
- Assist with internal application upkeep for product and credit workflows.
- Prepare market-facing materials for client pitches.
- Draft information memoranda and lender presentations for lead-role opportunities and help coordinate bank meetings.
- Help manage technical and legal diligence, and support the structuring process through closing.
- Track portfolio activity and prepare reporting on active transactions and completed deals, including coordination with finance on fee recognition.
- Maintain internal reporting and distribute it to the relevant teams.
- Participate in client meetings when appropriate.
- Contribute to loan-closing preparation and monitoring.
- Use research sources and analytical tools to support transaction work.
- Take part in diligence and legal discussions.
Experience and working context
The position carries moderate complexity even though it is junior in level. The successful candidate should be able to build a solid understanding of underwriting and risk assessment quickly, while working closely with other client and product groups across the bank. The role also involves interaction with the Madrid team.
Requirements
- A degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience in corporate or investment banking with project finance exposure, or experience in construction or energy businesses connected to project finance.
- Formal credit training is considered an advantage.
- Strong command of English is essential; Spanish fluency is preferred.
- Clear communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively and meet demanding deadlines.
- Good understanding of financial statement analysis, financial modeling, and DCF analysis.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel and PowerPoint; Bloomberg knowledge is a plus.
Compensation and benefits
The expected base salary for this New York role is between $105,000 and $120,000 per year. Offers are not usually made at the top of the range. Pay is determined by factors such as relevant skills, training, experience, education, and certifications where applicable, along with market and organizational considerations. In addition to salary and a strong benefits package, selected candidates may receive a discretionary bonus.
Equal opportunity and work authorization
All qualified candidates will be considered without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status. Eligibility to work in the United States is required, and visa sponsorship will not be provided.
