Job description
The Opportunity
Designer Group is expanding its data centre operations and is looking for a Project Director (Electrical) to lead delivery across multiple live contracts in Europe. This position sits within the Operations team and is responsible for making sure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, to a high standard of quality, and in a way that consistently exceeds client expectations.
The role includes direct oversight of senior project staff and day-to-day accountability for the contracts under your leadership, all while working in line with Designer Group’s values and ways of working.

Operational Scope
This position reports to the Executive Director of DC and carries responsibility for leading project operations across European data centre projects, from pre-construction through to final handover.
- Make sure all work follows the company’s quality, safety, environmental, and health & safety requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Direct the operational delivery of data centre projects in Europe, including site teams, project standards, people management, and execution.
- Build and manage procurement plans, schedules, subcontract and order packages, technical submissions, and contractor design outputs.
- Take ownership of planning, programming, forecasting, reporting, cost management, budgeting, value engineering, and financial performance.
- Oversee design reviews, coordination, installation, commissioning, O&M closeout documents, and ensure completed installations are fit for purpose, timely, and within budget.
- Manage labour, materials, plant movement, site activity, and resource planning so milestones are met and delays are avoided.
- Work closely with clients, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders, while keeping accurate records and providing regular progress updates.
- Handle variations, monthly valuations, commercial reporting, and final project closeout to achieve the planned profit level.
- Lead and participate in project, design, and progress meetings, ensuring strong communication and delivery against deadlines and key milestones.
- Support wider project and business needs by completing additional tasks as required.
Requirements
- An electrical HNC, degree, or an equivalent qualification.
- At least 10 years of relevant professional experience.
- Ability to self-manage, stay organised, prioritise effectively, multitask, and remain effective under pressure.
- Strong planning, time management, technical problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, along with confident presentation and influencing ability.
- Comfortable building professional relationships and working with colleagues at all levels, both on site and in office settings.
- A proactive, responsible, positive, and hands-on attitude with a strong ability to take initiative.
