About the Role
The Programme Management Officer will lead the Raptors MoU Coordinating Unit, overseeing the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Birds of Prey in Africa and Eurasia. This position reports to the Executive Coordinator of the CMS Office in Abu Dhabi.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee delivery of the Raptors MoU work programme, including implementation of the Action Plan and projects targeting specific species' conservation.
- Provide Secretariat support to the Meeting of Signatories, Technical Advisory Group, and related task forces and working groups.
- Organize and coordinate international meetings and workshops; prepare related technical and policy documentation; assist in devising national and regional conservation strategies.
- Develop and execute communication and resource mobilization plans; foster partnerships with governments, IGOs, NGOs, donors, and research institutions.
- Represent the Raptors MoU at international events and meetings, including engagements within the UAE.
- Enhance cooperation with the CMS Secretariat, national focal points, technical experts, and conservation stakeholders for coordinated policy and implementation.
- Manage the Coordinating Unit's operations, including budgeting, supervising staff and consultants, and ensuring compliance with UN administrative and legal rules.
- Collect, analyze, and visualize data to support evidence-based planning, reporting, and decision-making.
- Carry out other duties as assigned.
Candidate Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master's level or equivalent) in biology, ecology, zoology, environmental studies, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level degree plus two additional years of relevant experience is acceptable.
- Minimum seven years of progressively responsible experience in species conservation and management or related disciplines.
- At least three years of experience working within international organizations or intergovernmental conservation frameworks.
- Required experience in avian species conservation.
- Preferred experience with raptor conservation, migratory species, and Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs).
- Desirable experience in data analytics or associated fields.
- Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of French and Arabic is considered advantageous.
