Job description

About the Company

The Comfort Group is a family-run business with more than 90 years of history, known through the Sleepyhead brand for helping New Zealanders get a better night’s rest. The company is proudly owned and operated in New Zealand, supports local employment, and invests in the communities it serves.

Operating across New Zealand and Australia, the business is built on strong family values and a genuine focus on its people. Many employees have stayed for decades, including some with over 50 years of service. The company is also part of The Comfort Group, the largest bedding and foam manufacturer in Australasia, with several sites across New Zealand and Australia, including four large super sites.

About the Role

This position is based at the Otahuhu site and offers a hands-on role within the bedding production team. Depending on your experience, you will support a variety of manufacturing tasks, from managing raw materials to running machinery and equipment used in bedding production. The role involves rotating through multiple work areas such as mattress assembly, sewing, quilting, bases, upholstery, packing, spring line, housekeeping, and related functions.

Full training is provided, and there is scope to develop into a multi-skilled team member across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out manual production work and operate equipment in line with safety and quality requirements.
  • Follow all production, operational, and safety processes.
  • Check that raw materials and finished products meet required quality standards.
  • Complete quality inspections and keep accurate records.
  • Work closely with others to help maintain a safe, efficient, and positive workplace.
  • Follow rotation schedules and keep work areas clean and orderly.
  • Report hazards, equipment faults, and quality issues without delay.
  • Take part in ongoing training and workplace health and safety improvement initiatives.
  • Undertake additional tasks as directed by your supervisor.

About You

We are looking for dependable, enthusiastic people who enjoy practical work, value safety, and are keen to learn and build their skills in a manufacturing setting.

  • Comfortable with physical work and manual handling.
  • Consistently reliable and punctual.
  • A positive team player.
  • Strong focus on safety and product quality.
  • Open to learning and working across different production areas.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Manufacturing experience is helpful but not required.
  • A forklift licence is an advantage for some roles.

What’s on Offer

  • A friendly and supportive team environment.
  • Full training with ongoing opportunities to build new skills.
  • Subsidised cafeteria.
  • Onsite parking.
  • Staff discounts.

Safety First

The workplace places strong emphasis on safety, respectful behaviour, proper use of PPE, and a positive team culture. You will be expected to follow all safety procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe environment for everyone.
