Job description
About the Role
BAE Systems is hiring a Production Support Officer to join the JORN business in the Alice Springs region of the Northern Territory, with the role based at Jindalee Mt Everard. The position reports to the Site Lead and focuses on strengthening workplace health and safety across site activities.
In this role, you will help implement, monitor, and continuously improve WHS initiatives, while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and BAE safety procedures. You will help embed a safety-first culture built around BAE’s Life Saving Rules and organisational values. The work may also involve short trips to other staffed locations or to remote Sounder & Transponder sites across northern Australia to support upgrades and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and oversee personnel and contractors involved in high-risk or critical production work, including checking SWMS, JHA/JSEA, and related safety paperwork.
- Run site inductions for employees, contractors, and visitors, and keep induction approvals and records up to date.
- Assist the Technical Services team with training activities such as first aid, driver, and safety training, along with equipment compliance and statutory registers.
- Organise pre-start checks, chemical controls, PPE requirements, and contractor competency verification to meet safety and compliance expectations.
- Take part in safety inspections, hazard reviews, incident reporting, Bowtie health checks, and site walk-throughs.
- Help with emergency planning, drills, and SHE incident or hazard investigations, and support corrective actions and ongoing improvements.
- Keep safety documents, risk assessments, hazard registers, and maintenance records current in the BAE MMS system.
- Represent the safety function in meetings, contribute to visible safety leadership, and reinforce a workplace culture aligned to BAE’s safety values.
Required Skills and Experience
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.
- Hands-on experience supporting WHS, SHE, or environmental activities, preferably in remote operations.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and safety management systems.
- Understanding of Fire Warden duties and Defence Fuel Installation permit requirements.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills with a collaborative approach.
- Solid administrative capability, including reporting, data handling, and spreadsheet work.
