About the Role

The Storytelling team at National Geographic Society focuses on leveraging journalism, photography, film, web content, mapping, and data visualization to broaden the organization's reach. As a key funder of individual storytellers, the team emphasizes supporting emerging creative talent. The Production Manager for Photo Camp plays a pivotal role in managing the daily operations and logistics of Photo Camp programs globally, coordinating event planning, travel, budgeting, contracts, and liaising with various internal stakeholders. The position involves extensive travel to oversee field logistics for Photo Camps worldwide.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead pre- and post-production planning for worldwide Photo Camp events.
  • Oversee logistics including travel arrangements, accommodations, venue and transportation bookings, and participant registration.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to meet program needs.
  • Work alongside Staff Volunteer Logistics Assistants to support operations.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of production, logistics, staffing, and budgets using internal tools such as Production Brief and Airtable.
  • Provide on-site event production and logistical support during 5-7 day Photo Camps, both domestic and international, serving as the main contact between students, community representatives, and partners.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management, communications, or a closely related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in production or logistics roles.
  • Demonstrated success managing several projects simultaneously.
  • Skills in creating presentations, handling photographic and video materials, and coordinating complex activities are advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication, and ability to work collaboratively within a team.

  • Exceptional event production and organizational expertise.

Additional Details

  • This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but involves collaboration with Volunteer Tech Directors and Logistics Assistants.
  • Hybrid work model requiring presence at the Base Camp office in Washington, DC two days per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays).
  • Significant travel internationally and domestically to support Photo Camps.
  • Position requires legal authorization to work in the United States; it is not open to visa sponsorship.

Compensation and Benefits

The position offers a salary range of $76,950 to $81,000 per year, reflecting various factors such as organizational needs and individual qualifications.
