Production Engineer (University Grad)

Role overview

Meta is hiring a Production Engineer focused on building and supporting the core infrastructure behind its products and services. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and large-scale systems reliability, helping keep platforms fast, stable, and able to serve billions of users.

You will work across product and infrastructure groups on systems that power applications such as Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, Videos, as well as backend services including storage, caching, and networking. The work involves shipping code into production, solving difficult live issues, and improving systems that operate at massive scale.

Meta’s Production Engineering teams are made up of engineers with a wide range of experience. In this role, you will collaborate with strong technical peers, take ownership of systems end to end, and contribute to software that directly impacts millions of people every day.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of backend services, fleet management systems, customer-facing services such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Meta Ads, as well as infrastructure components supporting Meta’s AI work, core internal services, large MySQL deployments, networking systems, and related areas.
• Develop and review code, use AI-based tools to help ship and productionize software, prepare documentation and capacity plans, and troubleshoot especially complex live-production problems.
• Design systems that are efficient, resilient, and able to scale for demanding applications.
• Evaluate code for quality, performance, scalability, and operational efficiency, then improve it where needed.
• Build deep ownership of the systems you support, with strong end-to-end technical understanding.
• Work closely with top-tier engineers on systems that are deployed to production and used by billions of users worldwide.

Requirements

• Hands-on coding experience in a mainstream programming language such as Java, Python, C++, or PHP.
• Familiarity with learning and working with software frameworks and APIs.
• Experience using a UNIX-like operating system such as Linux or BSD.
• Currently pursuing, or already holding, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience; the degree must be completed before joining.
• Ability to secure and maintain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire.
• Experience with a relational database system such as MySQL or Postgres is preferred.
• Understanding of TCP/IP networking basics is preferred.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in a cross-functional team setting is preferred.
• Knowledge of internet-scale service architecture, including load balancing, LAMP, and CDNs, is preferred.
• Experience solving complex problems, weighing trade-offs, and choosing a practical direction is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to use AI tools to improve workflows and deliver measurable gains is preferred.
• Experience applying responsible and ethical AI practices, including risk review, bias mitigation, and quality checks, is preferred.
• Ongoing learning in AI skills such as prompt engineering, context engineering, and agent orchestration is preferred.

Compensation and benefits

The base salary range for this role is $122,000 to $143,000 per year. In addition to base pay, the package may include bonus, equity, and benefits. Final compensation depends on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
