Job description

Role overview

Highwood Emissions Management is hiring a Product Manager for its Data & Insights portfolio in Calgary, Alberta. This is a full-time, permanent position with a competitive salary and benefits package. The schedule is flexible, with the expectation that you are available during standard office hours. The role reports to the Director of Product.

About the company

Highwood Emissions Management is focused on making transparency around industrial emissions the standard. Since 2020, the company’s engineers, scientists, and policy specialists have supported energy producers responsible for 10% of global oil and gas output in reducing methane and carbon emissions, while also helping them achieve OGMP 2.0 Gold Standard certification more quickly and at lower cost.

The organization works in a startup-style environment built around fast experimentation, ongoing learning, and measurable impact. The work involves complex climate and emissions challenges, close collaboration with industry leaders, and a culture that emphasizes respect, curiosity, and enjoyment. Highwood highlights professional growth, meaningful impact, and equity participation as part of the opportunity.

Highwood is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from people of all backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status. The company also values diversity of worldview, experience, and perspective.

What you will own

You will own the Data & Insights portfolio from end to end. The goal is to identify, build, and improve benchmarks, datasets, intelligence reports, analytics, and decision-support tools that deliver measurable customer value, support new business, improve renewals, and strengthen Highwood’s competitive position. In collaboration with consulting, R&D, and Engineering teams, you will turn deep subject-matter knowledge and complex data signals into products that help both internal experts and customers.

AI is a core part of the portfolio. You will help define and deliver the AI direction for the product area with the Director of Product, including feedback mechanisms that capture expert input and reinforce product value. This role goes beyond standard BI dashboards and requires thoughtful decisions about when a deterministic approach is appropriate and when probabilistic AI methods create more value.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead product management for the Data & Insights portfolio from identifying the problem to discovery and final delivery.
  • Evaluate and shape benchmarks, curated public and private datasets, intelligence reports, analytics, dashboards, and emissions-reduction enablement capabilities.
  • Maintain a prioritized backlog with clear acceptance criteria, while managing the quality, ingestion, and lifecycle of the datasets supporting the product.
  • Define, execute, and launch AI-native features aligned to outcomes set with the Director of Product.
  • Build expert feedback loops into the product so user input can be captured, structured, and used to demonstrate product value.
  • Run discovery work to uncover reusable expertise, methods, and analytical frameworks that can be turned into product features.
  • Identify consulting workflows that are best suited for productization and convert them into features that reduce repetitive effort and speed up delivery.
  • Engage domain experts to understand requirements, test assumptions, and collect feedback.
  • Keep the Director of Product, Consulting leadership, Marketing, and Sales informed about portfolio goals, roadmap updates, and progress.
  • Contribute to the roadmap and long-term product vision, using market and customer evidence to keep priorities current.
  • Stay up to date on AI/ML tools, data products, and emissions analytics to find opportunities for differentiation.

What you should bring

Applicants should have either relevant education or equivalent practical experience in a field such as business, computer science, data science, engineering, or a related area.

You should have at least 5 years of product management experience in engineering, scientific, finance, or another data-heavy software environment. The company is also looking for proven experience shipping AI-powered and AI-native features, including the use of expert feedback loops and careful choices between deterministic and probabilistic product behavior.

Hands-on experience building or maintaining benchmarks, intelligence reports, analytics, or decision-support products is important. Familiarity with the upstream or midstream oil and gas sector, and/or emissions management, is especially valuable.

Skills and working style

  • You know how to uncover valuable problems, guide solution exploration, and reduce product risk through prototyping and testing.
  • You are comfortable shipping AI features in production and designing feedback loops that improve them over time.
  • You think in terms of data products, including quality, lineage, provenance, security, and sensitivity.
  • You can prioritize work based on customer evidence and business value, even when the problem space is new or ambiguous.
  • You can translate oil and gas, emissions reduction, and compliance needs into practical product solutions.
  • You manage relationships across users, buyers, internal teams, and external experts while balancing competing interests.
  • You communicate clearly in writing and speaking, and can tailor technical ideas for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • You can align product direction with company strategy and broader market signals.
  • You understand data pipelines, analytics infrastructure, and the basics of AI product development well enough to make informed trade-offs with engineering.
  • You adapt well in a fast-changing early-stage environment where priorities can shift.

Benefits

  • Canadian health and dental coverage, including dental care, prescription drugs, vision, massage therapy, physiotherapy, and psychotherapy.
  • The company pays the premiums, and the plan covers partners and dependents.
  • $5,000 per year for non-essential educational pursuits.
  • RRSP matching for Canadian employees after one year.
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
  • Comparable benefits for employees based outside Canada.

Company culture and commitments

  • Respectful, fair, and honest treatment for employees and contractors.
  • A workplace where people are encouraged to question existing methods and share their views.
  • Support for personal and professional goals where employees choose to share them.
  • Opportunities to learn, grow, expand networks, and strengthen professional identity.
  • Recognition and reward for contributions and achievements.
  • A culture that makes room for fun and celebration.
  • An environment where concerns can be raised openly, even when they seem minor.

What Highwood expects from you

  • Respect others and value their contributions, including when things do not go well.
  • Be patient with yourself, since the team works on unsolved problems and treats mistakes as part of learning.
  • Keep learning and growing professionally and personally.
  • Be open to innovation and change.
  • Do your best while setting healthy boundaries and taking breaks when needed.
