Role Summary
The Product Developer partners closely with design, technical design, and manufacturing teams to bring product concepts to life aligned with design intent and the company’s global sourcing strategy. They oversee the product lifecycle from initial design through to final sample approval, ensuring timely, high-quality production that meets cost targets and supports brand objectives. This position may cover multiple product categories.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee new product development from ideation through sample approvals.
- Coordinate tech pack handoffs at category level, collaborating with design and regional offices to resolve development inquiries.
- Manage color sample yardage for line review samples accurately.
- Initiate prototype and color sample orders with vendors and regional teams.
- Monitor yardage and sample readiness for color and prototype samples.
- Develop and update seasonal development trackers and cost charts.
- Negotiate product costs and present cost-saving options to improve margins.
- Communicate costing information to design, merchandising, and planning departments.
- Maintain all Bills of Materials (BOMs) within Centric PLM system and update vendors on any changes in BOM or color components throughout development.
- Resolve challenges related to cost, construction, production execution, and sample tracking throughout product development.
- Lead cross-functional risk assessments and product readiness sessions for product categories.
- Track seasonal development ratios diligently.
- Participate in fittings with attention to potential impacts on costs.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 to 6 years of product development experience in apparel and/or accessories.
- Highly organized and detail-focused with consistent follow-through.
- Adaptable and flexible with a collaborative team approach.
- Basic proficiency with FlexPLM is preferred.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience collaborating with design and merchandising teams.
- Experience working with overseas suppliers, agents, or offices.
- Good understanding of garment construction and costing principles.
Compensation
The salary for this position ranges from $88,200 to $117,285 annually, dependent on factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
