Product Designer II

Role overview

Modea’s Product Designers craft digital products that improve healthcare experiences. In this role, you’ll work with clients and internal partners to turn complex business goals and user needs into clear, effective interfaces, interaction patterns, and user journeys. As part of an agile delivery team, you’ll partner closely with Project Managers and Engineers to design, build, and refine solutions that produce measurable results and meaningful user impact.

Key responsibilities

• Convert complicated user and business needs into easy-to-use wireframes, user flows, and polished prototypes with tools such as Figma.
• Explain and defend design decisions to client-side stakeholders, grounding recommendations in research findings and business goals.
• Plan and run user research activities, including interviews and usability tests, with an emphasis on healthcare-related user needs.
• Work day to day with agile teams, including Project Managers and Engineers, so solutions are practical, correctly implemented, and aligned to client objectives.
• Refine designs quickly in response to user feedback, technical limits, and stakeholder comments.
• Help develop and maintain design systems to preserve consistency and quality across products.
• Review market direction and competitor products to shape design strategy and decisions.

What we’re looking for

You should have a portfolio that demonstrates strong user-centered design thinking, interaction and visual design ability, and a structured design approach. The role calls for at least 2 years of professional experience, including cross-platform design and prototyping in tools like Figma, collaboration within agile delivery teams, and advising clients on design choices. You should also have hands-on experience across the full design process, from research and wireframing to high-fidelity mockups and usability testing. A bachelor’s degree in HCI, Interaction Design, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience is required. Experience in healthcare or another regulated, complex industry is preferred, and prior work in a design consultancy or agency is especially valuable.

Work environment and location

This role can be performed fully in-office, fully remotely, or in a hybrid arrangement. Modea allows employees to work from locations in Virginia, Tennessee, or North Carolina, unless job duties require otherwise. A modern office is available in Blacksburg, Virginia. The workplace is described as an indoor setting with moderate temperature and noise levels. Employees may occasionally travel to offices or other locations for training or client visits, and the company provides tools needed to work both at home and in the office.

Physical requirements

The job requires the ability to stay seated for most of the workday, operate a computer continuously, and communicate with clients and coworkers both face-to-face and through digital tools. You should also be able to occasionally carry items weighing up to 10 lbs to and from the office.
