Role overview
This is a 12-month contract with Canva, a role focused on helping shape how the world understands and experiences the company’s products. The position sits within the Global Communications function and is designed for someone based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Work arrangement
The role is anchored in Sydney and is intended for someone who lives there. Canva follows a hybrid setup that allows for remote work alongside on-campus time for collaboration and connection when needed.
What you will work on
- Create and run a year-long product storytelling plan that highlights Canva’s range of products, the challenges they solve, and the ways people use them to design, communicate, and collaborate.
- Help Canva’s product leaders build visibility through media opportunities, content, speaking slots, and industry participation that reinforce the company’s reputation.
- Lead the global process for product reviews, rankings, and awards, finding opportunities to showcase innovation and earn credible recognition from important publications and organisations.
- Partner with Product Marketing to refine product messaging and positioning so communications remain consistent with Canva’s broader direction.
- Work with data teams to turn usage trends, growth milestones, adoption patterns, and user behaviour into strong stories that demonstrate product momentum and impact.
- Support major product launches and announcements across earned and owned channels, coordinating with product and marketing stakeholders to create high-impact release moments.
What this team does
Canva’s Global Communications team helps define how the company is perceived around the world by customers, employees, investors, regulators, and the media. The group works across the business to turn what Canva is building into clear narratives that build momentum, strengthen reputation, and support growth across more than a dozen countries.
What they are looking for
- Background in product communications, consumer technology communications, or broader technology communications, with evidence of creating strong product stories and generating coverage in top-tier outlets.
- Genuine enthusiasm for products and storytelling, including the ability to spot newsworthy angles and translate innovation into narratives that matter to media and customers.
- Experience working closely with Product Marketing teams and converting product priorities, launch plans, and positioning into communications strategy and storylines.
- Solid knowledge of the product reviews and awards ecosystem, including experience earning recognition from leading publications, review platforms, analysts, and industry bodies.
- Excellent writing and editorial judgment across formats such as media pitches, press releases, spokesperson notes, executive messaging, reactive statements, and internal communications.
- Comfort working with senior leaders and spokespeople ahead of media interviews, keynote talks, customer-facing events, and thought leadership opportunities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment, own complex work end to end, and bring structure to uncertain or ambiguous situations.
