Prison Support Officer - HMP Grendon and Springhill

Role Overview

Join His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP Grendon and Springhill. This dynamic position contributes significantly to the smooth and secure operation of the prison by handling a variety of tasks ranging from security checks and managing deliveries to supervising visitors and monitoring communication systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct security procedures including searches at the entrance gate.
• Manage the intake and distribution of deliveries within the prison.
• Supervise visitors to ensure compliance with prison regulations.
• Monitor telephone calls and oversee CCTV surveillance for security purposes.
• Perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles around the prison grounds.

Candidate Profile

No formal qualifications are required; however, excellent communication skills, the ability to remain composed under pressure, sound judgment, and strong teamwork capabilities are essential. Candidates must hold a full, valid UK driving licence as driving duties are a critical part of the role. Shifts will include nights and weekends, reflecting the continuous nature of prison operations.

Compensation and Benefits

• Starting salary of £29,432.
• 25 days annual leave upon joining, increasing to 30 days after 10 years’ service, pro-rata.
