About the Role

Join His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP Wayland in Fakenham Magna. This full-time, onsite position is crucial for the daily operations of a busy prison. You will be part of a dedicated team contributing to security, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, and monitoring communications. The role is dynamic, involving both desk-based tasks and physical activities like lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles across the prison grounds.

Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operations of HMP Wayland.
  • Conduct security checks and searches at the prison gate.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing deliveries.
  • Supervise visitor interactions.
  • Monitor phone calls and CCTV feeds.
  • Undertake desk duties as required.
  • Perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles.

Requirements

  • No formal qualifications are required.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Good judgment and common sense.
  • Excellent teamwork capabilities.
  • Willingness to work varied shifts, including weekends and nights.
  • Consideration for transport options to meet fixed shift times, as public transport may be limited. A driving licence and own transport are beneficial but not mandatory unless specified.
