Job description

Role Overview

This position offers a significant opportunity to join the newly formed Empty Properties team within the Public Protection service, playing a central role in addressing challenges related to vacant and problematic properties. The aim is to leverage legal measures effectively to return these properties to use, collaborating extensively with both internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure impactful outcomes.

About the Service

The team forms part of Middlesbrough Council’s Public Protection Service, a committed group focused on enhancing residents' quality of life by safeguarding living standards, protecting the environment, defending consumer rights, and promoting a robust local economy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies targeting the management and improvement of empty and problematic properties.
  • Utilize legal powers to bring properties back into active use.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external organizations to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Support delivery of statutory functions alongside other Principal Officers and Service Managers within the broader Public Protection framework.
  • Contribute to corporate initiatives, including emergency planning activities.

Candidate Profile

Ideal applicants will possess experience and knowledge related to managing empty properties. While management experience and qualifications are desirable, they are not mandatory. Candidates should be resilient, adaptable to change, and effective communicators with strong interpersonal abilities.
