Job description
Role overview
Queensland Government’s Games Infrastructure (Venues and Villages) division is looking for a Principal Project Officer to support the Villages Program at AO7 level. The role contributes to the planning and delivery of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Athlete Villages, with a strong focus on project controls, governance, delivery assurance, and stakeholder coordination.
You will work across complex infrastructure projects, partnering with government teams, Brisbane 2032, delivery partners, developers, and other stakeholders. The role involves providing practical strategic advice, tracking performance, managing risks, and helping drive outcomes that will benefit Queensland communities well beyond the Games.
This is a high-impact opportunity to be part of a significant infrastructure program that supports both event delivery and long-term legacy housing and community outcomes.
Your strengths
The team is seeking a candidate who brings:
- Strong capability in project and program coordination, with the ability to manage multiple moving parts and keep delivery on track.
- Well-developed analytical thinking to spot risks, issues, and opportunities, then turn them into workable solutions.
- Good governance discipline, with experience following reporting frameworks, project controls, and contractual obligations.
- Clear communication and influencing skills, allowing you to prepare concise advice and build trust with stakeholders.
- The ability to develop effective working relationships across government, industry, and delivery partners.
- A strong sense of accountability and a consistent focus on outcomes in a fast-moving environment.
Key responsibilities
In this position, you will:
- Manage State-level requirements linked to planning, development, and delivery of the Athlete Villages, including scheduling, coordination, reporting, and governance tasks.
- Support project and program controls such as milestone monitoring, change tracking, risk oversight, and performance reporting.
- Contribute to delivery assurance processes that confirm progress is being made and that governance and contract obligations are being met.
- Work with government agencies, Brisbane 2032, and delivery partners to align governance arrangements, village needs, and legacy objectives.
- Prepare briefings, submissions, strategic recommendations, and other documents to support approvals and decision-making.
- Build and maintain productive stakeholder relationships across government, industry, sporting bodies, and business groups.
- Represent the division in meetings, forums, and cross-agency discussions when required.
