About the Role

Join the Financial Markets Authority as a Principal Adviser in the Insurance team and play a pivotal role in supervising New Zealand's insurance sector. This position involves leading technical and strategic projects to enhance regulatory approaches, boost team capability, and support outcomes favorable to both consumers and markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Head the development and refinement of monitoring frameworks, supervisory tools, and approaches specific to insurance.
  • Offer expert technical direction on complex monitoring projects and address emerging issues within the insurance industry.
  • Participate in creating industry guidance, conducting thematic reviews, and advancing regulatory initiatives across the sector.
  • Foster and uphold productive relationships with insurers, industry groups, and other key stakeholders.
  • Steer strategic projects and help determine team priorities around risk assessment and supervision.
  • Mentor and coach colleagues to improve team expertise and capabilities.

Candidate Profile

The role requires demonstrated experience in managing complex projects, influencing regulatory or financial outcomes, and mentoring team members. A background in financial services, markets, or regulatory environments is preferred; specific insurance sector experience is advantageous but not mandatory. The ideal candidate exhibits strong critical thinking, sound judgment, and comfort working in ambiguous situations. Effective collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills are essential to drive meaningful results.
