Job description

Role Overview

This full-time position supports a political communications team by keeping watch on media coverage, preparing daily press summaries, and helping with fast-moving press activity. The role is intended for someone who can help the team stay informed, respond quickly to news, and keep press operations organized.

Location: Manhattan. Manager: Communications Director. Compensation is based on experience. Benefits include healthcare, dental, and vision coverage.

Key Duties

  • Track local, state, and national news in real time across television, print, online, and social channels.
  • Prepare and circulate daily media clip reports, including both early-morning and evening updates.
  • Spot breaking stories, developing narratives, and opportunities for rapid response, then alert the communications team.
  • Draft support materials such as clip summaries, background notes, and initial statement drafts.
  • Help manage press operations by maintaining press lists, recording reporter contacts, and coordinating interviews.
  • Keep media databases and distribution lists accurate and current.
  • Assist with press event logistics, including check-in coordination, materials preparation, and on-site support.
  • Monitor press coverage related to the Governor, opponents, and major issues.

Qualifications

  • 0–2 cycles of experience, or comparable internships, in political communications, journalism, or media.
  • Strong interest in politics and the news cycle, with a consistent habit of following current events closely.
  • Excellent organization and a sharp eye for detail.
  • Strong writing and editing ability, including for quick-turn materials.
  • Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends when needed.
  • Ability to stay composed under pressure while managing several priorities at once.
  • Familiarity with New York politics and the media environment is an advantage.
