Job description

Role overview

Royal Mail is hiring a Postperson with Driving for the Bromley Delivery Office in BR1 3QH. This is a permanent position where you will help deliver letters and parcels across the local area, serving as a visible and trusted representative of the service.

The job offers an active, community-facing working style, with a mix of driving, walking, sorting, and customer interaction. Rota details and delivery routes may change depending on demand, and Sunday working is required at this office.

Contract and pay

This is a permanent contract with pay set at £16.24 per hour, paid monthly, plus the option of paid overtime.

Working pattern

You will work 37 hours per week across 5 days out of 7, Monday through Sunday. Shift times may fall between 9:00 and 17:00 or 12:00 and 20:00. The rota will include some weekends, and you must be available to work Sundays at the Bromley Delivery Office.

Key duties

Your day will include preparing mail at the delivery office, then delivering post by van and on foot within the local community. You will also develop friendly customer relationships and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

The role involves more than just delivering letters and parcels. You may be responsible for handling important items such as exam results, birthday cards, business deliveries, election materials, and other items that need to reach people securely and on time.

What the role is like

This is a physically active, fast-moving job with a strong focus on reliability and pace. Expect long walking routes, daily van driving, and busy periods where time pressure is high, especially at peak times of year.

About you

You should be comfortable working independently, staying organised, and keeping going in a demanding environment. Royal Mail will provide full training, a uniform, and a red van.

To be successful, you need a full manual UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points, and it must be registered in your current name and address. You also need to be willing to drive a Royal Mail van every day and pass a driving assessment.

The work requires physical fitness, including the ability to walk long distances, climb stairs and hills, and carry mailbags weighing 10kg or more. You should also be customer-oriented, resilient, and comfortable working outdoors without supervision.

Benefits

Benefits may depend on your contract length, start date, and any qualifying periods.

  • 22.5 days of holiday, increasing with service and adjusted for part-time or fixed-term arrangements where relevant
  • Opportunities to build a long-term career
  • Pension support and access to wellbeing services 24/7, including online GP access
  • Family-friendly workplace policies
  • MyBundle+ savings and offers on everyday purchases, leisure activities, and more
  • Discounts on RMG products and free Christmas stamps

Additional information

For recruitment search purposes, roles of 35 to 37 hours per week are treated as full-time, but any contract below 37 hours per week will be classified as part-time in the employment agreement.

This role includes secure delivery of all items on your route, including election materials and certain regulated items such as food products or alcohol, in line with business standards.

No CV is required. The application process involves an online test followed by an interview with the hiring manager.
