Job description
Opportunity Overview
GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel in Germany is inviting applications for multiple postdoctoral roles within its Marine Natural Product Chemistry group at the GEOMAR Centre for Marine Biotechnology (GEOMAR-Biotech). The positions are available immediately and provide a stimulating, international research environment focused on marine biotechnology and chemical ecology.
Research Areas and Roles
- Postdoctoral researcher specializing in marine microbial natural product chemistry, requiring demonstrated expertise in microbiology, microbial natural products, metabolomics, compound isolation, and structural elucidation.
- Postdoctoral researcher focusing on marine natural product chemistry primarily related to macroorganisms and structure elucidation.
- Postdoctoral position centered on marine analytical natural product chemistry, emphasizing method development for LC-MS, GC-MS, and potentially NMR-based metabolomics to integrate with other omics data and investigate ecological questions.
Work Environment and Facilities
The group operates primarily in English and offers state-of-the-art infrastructure including advanced chemical analysis instrumentation such as UPLC-QTOF-MS combined with DESI Imaging Mass Spectrometry, HPLC-DAD-MS, HPLC-HRMS, GC-MS, as well as automated extraction systems including Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE) and Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE). Additionally, facilities include FT-IR, polarimeter, and extensive related databases. The microbiology and biotechnology labs are excellent, with microbial cultivation capabilities from small to large-scale fermentation (up to 300L) and access to sequencing technologies. High-resolution (cryo-) NMR facilities are accessible through the Chemistry Department at Kiel University. The group participates in several large European Union and national research projects and benefits from access to international research cruises and collaborations.
Application Process
