Job description
Position Overview
We are offering a full-time postdoctoral research opportunity funded by a long-term NIH R37 grant to investigate the mechanisms and therapeutic targets of stromal senescence in prostate cancer development. This role is based in the laboratory of Dr. Marcus Ruscetti, Ph.D., at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School (UMCMS), Worcester, MA.
Research Focus and Goals
- Identify diverse senescent cell populations and immune cell niches encouraging tumor progression through single cell and spatial transcriptomics.
- Assess the role of age-related senescence on prostate cancer initiation and immune system suppression.
This research sits at the crossroads of cancer genetics, tumor immunology, basic science, and clinical translation. The long-term aim is to translate knowledge of senescence biology's impact on tumor-immune interactions into therapeutic strategies against pancreatic and prostate cancers.
Work Environment
The position is housed within the Department of Molecular, Cell and Cancer Biology (MCCB) at UMCMS, which provides access to advanced core facilities, shared equipment, and a vibrant, intellectually stimulating community. Candidate Qualifications
- Ph.D. and/or M.D. completed recently (within 1 year postdoctoral experience).
- At least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal from doctoral or medical research.
- Minimum one year of experience working with mouse models.
- Background in cancer biology.
- Skilled in cell culture and molecular biology techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Highly self-driven and motivated.
- Collaborative approach within and outside the research group.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to plan experiments and meet deadlines.
- Ability to independently execute and analyze research experiments.
- Experience with genome editing, histological techniques, microscopy, immunology assays, flow cytometry, and high-throughput sequencing technologies preferred.
