Role overview
The South Carolina Department of Corrections is hiring a Postal Courier at Allendale Correctional Institution in Fairfax, Allendale County, SC. This is a full-time, on-site role focused on managing mail flow and postal services within the agency.
Key duties
- Sort incoming correspondence, handle outgoing mail, and keep postal distribution moving smoothly.
- Oversee agency postal operations and support daily mailroom activity.
- Guide employees who work on mail-handling tasks.
- Track insured and registered mail, along with related billing information.
- Use mailing policies, regulations, and procedures correctly while maintaining office filing and recordkeeping systems.
- Operate postal meters and scales as part of regular workflow.
- Keep detailed transaction records and submit reports to the SCDC financial accounting branch.
- Make sure inmate legal mail is processed and delivered according to applicable rules and procedures.
- Help arrange postage meter replenishment and collect postage reimbursements from inmates each month, or whenever needed.
Training requirement
Hired candidates must complete four weeks of SCDC Basic Training after joining.
Minimum qualifications
Applicants should meet South Carolina state minimum requirements: a high school diploma plus experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations. SCDC’s minimum standard is a high school diploma and at least one year of relevant work experience, though an associate degree or higher may replace the experience requirement.
