Job description
Role overview
This position handles the flow of postal items for the agency and ensures mail is processed, tracked, and distributed accurately. It also involves oversight of mail-handling support staff and coordination with related financial and postal processes.
Key responsibilities
- Receive, organize, and distribute incoming correspondence, and prepare outbound mail for dispatch.
- Oversee the agency’s postal operations and help manage day-to-day mail service activities.
- Lead employees who work on mail-handling duties.
- Keep records for insured and registered mail as well as billing and transaction activity.
- Apply knowledge of mail-handling rules, internal procedures, office filing, and recordkeeping practices.
- Operate postal meters and scales as part of routine duties.
- Maintain detailed logs and report postal transactions to the SCDC financial accounting branch.
- Ensure inmate legal mail is processed and delivered in line with applicable policies and procedures.
- Support postage meter replenishment and coordinate monthly or as-needed reimbursement collection from inmates.
Training and additional information
New hires must complete four weeks of SCDC Basic Training after being hired.

Minimum qualifications
State minimum qualification: a high school diploma plus work experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations.
SCDC minimum qualification: a high school diploma and at least one year of experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations. An associate degree or higher may replace the required work experience.
