Population Health Research and Evaluation Fellow

Role overview

This position sits within the Population Health Hub and is centred on mixed methods research and evaluation. The postholder will help shape work that improves health outcomes and tackles inequalities by turning evidence into practical service changes.

You will work in a multidisciplinary setting, leading applied research and evaluation activity, including projects that use routinely collected health data from both primary and secondary care. The role calls for someone who can manage staff, coordinate delivery, and contribute to real-world improvement across population health, service redesign, and evidence-based decision-making.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with academic, clinical, patient, carer and wider stakeholder groups to design, deliver and oversee applied population health projects.
• Work alongside the lead researcher on rapid mixed-methods evaluations that use both primary and secondary care data, such as interviews, focus groups, surveys and large dataset analysis.
• Coordinate evaluation activity across the Population Health Hub and clinical teams, collaborating closely with analysts.
• Plan and deliver evaluation frameworks, including gathering, analysing and interpreting both qualitative and quantitative evidence.
• Manage Population Health Hub research and evaluation programmes, including timelines, milestones and delivery tracking.
• Prepare clear outputs for different audiences, including reports, publications, presentations and policy briefings.
• Oversee study set-up, documentation and submissions to relevant research governance bodies.
• Maintain strong standards in ethics, research governance, data protection and confidentiality.
• Create, manage and maintain evaluation databases and records.
• Support team capability and multidisciplinary working, including contributing to the development of junior colleagues.
• Build and sustain internal and external partnerships that strengthen applied population health research.
• Keep current with relevant scientific and professional developments, and contribute to innovation and continuous improvement.
• Help disseminate findings to both academic and non-academic audiences in accessible formats.

Population Health Hub context

This role is based in the Population Health Hub, which sits within the Office of the Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer. The Hub supports the Trust’s 2030 population health ambitions by combining clinical, analytical and improvement expertise to embed preventative and equitable approaches to care.

Working with clinical groups and system partners, the Hub develops insight-led service redesign to address unmet need and reduce inequalities in access, experience and outcomes.
