Role Overview
This full-time Plant Metallurgist position, based in Harare, offers hybrid work arrangements with partial work-from-home options. The plant metallurgist’s primary tasks involve overseeing and refining metallurgical processes such as crushing, milling, leaching, and recovery operations to maintain steady and optimal plant function.
Key Responsibilities
- Gathering and interpreting production and quality metrics.
- Modifying process parameters to improve plant efficiency.
- Drafting technical reports and formulating recommendations.
- Troubleshooting process disturbances and equipment challenges.
- Collaborating with operations and maintenance teams to enhance recovery rates, throughput, and cost-effectiveness.
- Supporting safety, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives within the processing plant.
Qualifications and Skills
- Comprehensive understanding of Metallurgy and Extractive Metallurgy applicable to plant optimization.
- Experience in process control, including performance monitoring, trend analysis, and adjustment implementation.
- Expertise in leaching processes encompassing reagent oversight, solution chemistry, and maximizing recovery.
- Ability to conduct failure analyses to identify causes of operational setbacks and inefficiencies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Familiarity with data analytics tools and fundamental statistical techniques for performance evaluation.
- Excellent communication and cooperation skills for effective teamwork with operational, maintenance, and lab staff.
- Strong problem-solving mindset and meticulous attention to safety and environmental protocols.
- Previous exposure to mineral processing or hydrometallurgy in a plant context, preferably involving tungsten minerals, is beneficial.
