Position Summary
Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children has spent more than 30 years serving children, teens, and young adults in Central Florida with compassionate care. Located on the downtown Orlando campus, the hospital has 156 licensed beds, a specialized pediatric emergency and trauma center, and a highly skilled team that includes pediatric subspecialists and a Magnet-recognized nursing staff. The hospital is hiring a Pharmacy Support Assistant to help receive and organize newly arrived inventory. This role also includes enrollment in the PSA to Pharmacy Technician program.
Shift: Varies - VFT
Responsibilities
- Repack bulk medication and other items into unit-dose form and keep the pre-packing area tidy and well arranged.
- Support the daily count of medications and supplies when assigned.
- Assist in preparing and completing unit-stock requests.
- Check inventory regularly and flag items that are outdated.
- Keep patient cassette areas and medication bins clean.
- Maintain compounding tools and work areas in an orderly, compliant state according to Chapter 795 standards.
- Ensure the IV room remains clean, organized, and properly stocked in line with Chapter 797 requirements.
- Deliver medications and IV products, including controlled substances and chemotherapy, to nursing units, other departments, and outpatient clinics on time when assigned.
- Carry out unit inspections as scheduled or directed.
- Monitor refrigerator and freezer temperatures for medications when assigned.
- Follow safety, emergency, and risk-management procedures.
- Use basic computer systems related to the role.
- Operate pharmacy equipment according to instructions, safety rules, and workplace policies.
- Maintain dependable attendance and punctuality in line with Orlando Health policies and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
- Follow all Orlando Health policies and procedures consistently.
- Communicate effectively across the organization so patients, visitors, families, physicians, and team members feel valued in every interaction.
- Meet expected productivity and workload standards for the daily assignment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of the organization’s internal entry-level Pharmacy Support Assistant training program tied to this role.
- Ability to speak, read, and understand basic English.
- No license or certification required.
- No prior experience required.
Additional Information
This is a full-time onsite position with a variable schedule.
Candidates selected for the role will also be enrolled in the PSA to Pharmacy Technician program.
