Role overview

This position is with a locally operated pharmacy store focused on health, beauty, and convenience services. The role supports the pharmacy team by handling prescription-related tasks, helping deliver pharmacy services, and ensuring customers receive prompt, courteous service.

What you will do

The pharmacy assistant helps with dispensing support, patient service, and day-to-day pharmacy operations in line with pharmacy standards and store procedures.

Customer service duties

  • Welcome customers quickly and collect prescription details as required by procedure.
  • Carry out tasks based on the priority order assigned in the shift schedule.
  • Send all clinical questions to the pharmacist.
  • Help set clear expectations for customers regarding wait times.
  • Retrieve prescriptions and related items, then complete checkout transactions.
  • Direct customers who need counseling to the pharmacist.
  • Handle the dispensary cash register responsibly.
  • Follow confidentiality and privacy rules at all times.

Administrative duties

  • Accept new and refill prescription requests following standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare and submit orders, excluding controlled drugs and narcotics.
  • Process third-party billing, including online submissions and manual account handling.
  • Answer incoming calls and transfer pharmacist-related matters when needed.
  • Manage incoming fax messages in accordance with pharmacy practice standards.
  • Support the pharmacist with coordinating patient callback follow-ups.
  • File completed records accurately as required by pharmacy standards.

Prescription workflow duties

  • Assist with prescription preparation according to company and professional service standards.
  • Enter data for new prescriptions and process refill requests.
  • Select medications for prescriptions in line with pharmacy standards of practice.
  • Count, measure, package, and label prescription items accurately and efficiently.
  • Update and maintain information in the relevant pharmacy systems.

Qualifications and skills

The role asks for a high school diploma. A pharmacy assistant diploma from an accredited program is preferred. Prior pharmacy experience is also preferred. Strong organization, the ability to juggle multiple tasks, good problem-solving ability, and close attention to detail are important for success.
