Job description

Role overview

This role is focused on leading retail construction projects through every stage, from kickoff to final handover. The position is responsible for keeping assignments on schedule, controlling costs, and ensuring all work matches company expectations. It is a remote field-based role with substantial travel and frequent overnight stays.

Core responsibilities

  • Lead several retail construction assignments at once from launch through final closeout.
  • Set the project scope, targets, key deliverables, and timeline.
  • Coordinate all development stages, including entitlement, design, permitting, bidding, contracting, construction, store turnover, and project wrap-up.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, vendors, and developers.
  • Prepare and oversee budgets, schedules, and forward-looking forecasts.
  • Review agreements, process change orders, and maintain quality standards.
  • Track progress, and share updates on status, risks, and corrective actions.
  • Use web-based project tracking tools to maintain documentation and monitor work.
  • Manage logistics and source materials so deliveries reach sites on time.
  • Identify sourcing issues early and communicate delays or risks promptly.
  • Coordinate inbound logistics from suppliers to distribution centers and then to stores.
  • Carry out site evaluations that may involve ladder use and rooftop access.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner and provide strong client service.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a similar discipline is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing retail or large-format construction projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Comfort using web-based project management platforms.
  • Clear written and spoken communication skills.
  • Strong organization, time management, and multitasking ability.
  • Ability to use tablets for live field data capture.

Work environment and conditions

This is a travel-heavy role with work performed in the field. Travel is typically 80% to 100%, both within the state and occasionally out of state, and reliable transportation is required. The work may take place outdoors in severe heat, cold, rain, and snow. The environment can include exposure to machinery, fumes, elevated areas, and moderate construction-site noise. Safety rules must be followed at all times, and safety gear plus training will be provided.

Physical requirements

The role may require sitting, standing, and walking for up to 8 hours per day. Additional duties can include climbing ladders and stairs, accessing rooftops, bending, kneeling, crawling, working in tight spaces, lifting or moving items up to 40 pounds, and using hands for handling, reaching, and equipment operation. Visual ability must support close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
