About the Role
The People Relations Partner supports the business by applying consistent and compliant people relations practices. This includes handling labor law topics, employee matters, workplace wellbeing, and collaboration across teams. The role also advises leaders, supports capability building through training, and helps foster a workplace that is safe, fair, and engaging.
This is a hybrid position reporting to the People Manager and based in the Toronto Support Office.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure people practices follow local labor laws, regulations, and collective agreements while maintaining a consistent and compliant approach.
- Build productive relationships with employee representatives, works councils, and unions to support a positive labor relations environment.
- Provide expert guidance on labor law, workplace health, wellbeing, and employee case handling to promote fair treatment.
- Support the handling of individual employee matters, internal investigations, grievances, and disciplinary processes.
- Help Store Managers manage illness-related cases, including support for difficult conversations, and work with case managers to meet local legal requirements such as gatekeeper law compliance.
- Take part in arbitration and dispute-related processes.
- Own the local grievance process and the related tools and support materials.
- Contribute to change initiatives and strategic projects that require People Relations expertise.
- Work with business leaders and colleagues to deliver People Relations strategies that align global direction with local legal and employee needs.
- Partner across functions to help create a safe, healthy, and inclusive workplace that supports wellbeing and engagement.
- Lead or support local and Sales Market initiatives that strengthen People Relations capabilities and support organizational change.
- Deliver training and communication to managers on labor relations, health and safety, and employee engagement.
- Make sure managers have the knowledge and tools they need to handle People Relations responsibilities effectively.
- Coach people leaders on goal setting, performance measures, and improvement actions.
- Translate business needs into practical People Relations actions.
Requirements
- A university degree in Human Resources, Labor Law, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Background in People Relations, Labor Relations, or HR Business Partnering.
- Strong understanding of labor law, collective bargaining, and health and safety rules.
- Solid advisory, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven experience handling complex employee cases and negotiations.
- An analytical, proactive, and solution-focused working style.
- Fluent English; knowledge of additional local languages is an asset.

Compensation and Employment Details
The posted salary for this position is 113994 per year. This role is salaried and exempt. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed, and the listed duties are not exhaustive.
