Job description

Role overview

H&M is seeking a Department Manager for its Royalty Crossing location in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. In this role, you will help drive sales and profitability by planning how to deliver an excellent customer experience across the department and the wider store. You will also lead team development, support succession planning, and manage performance using results, company values, and leadership expectations as your guide.

The role sits under the Store Manager and has direct responsibility for a Department Supervisor and Sales Advisor.

What you will do

  • Track and review department sales and profit results with Visual Merchandisers, then act on opportunities to improve selling performance.
  • Coordinate staffing and working hours so store operations, customer service, and commercial activities are delivered effectively while staying within budgeted hours.
  • Work with the store leadership team to make sure H&M standards, operating routines, and best practices are followed, including scheduling for campaigns, events, sales, and operational execution.
  • Set priorities with the team and ensure the Commercial Handbook is put into practice.
  • Coach the team to consistently deliver strong customer service and lead by example.
  • Take part in daily store tasks such as receiving deliveries, processing garments, reductions, department moves, and price changes.
  • Help reduce loss and make sure safety and security rules are followed in the department.
  • Share input with the Store Manager and Area Team on stock allocation and replenishment based on sales patterns, and flag competitor-related risks, threats, and opportunities.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, development, and succession planning in line with H&M methods.
  • Monitor team performance, give regular feedback, hold development conversations, follow up on action plans, and take steps to improve results and capability.
  • Communicate business performance, company culture, and training priorities through daily team check-ins and weekly leadership meetings.
  • Ensure health, safety, legal, and security matters are handled in line with H&M standards and local laws.
  • Carry out supervisory duties such as handling time-off requests, pay-related matters, terminations, corrective actions, and other employment decisions as permitted by policy and law.
  • Be ready to take full store responsibility when the Store Manager is unavailable.
  • Help build a strong company culture by encouraging open feedback and coaching your team to do the same.
