Job description

Role overview

This opportunity is being shared on behalf of a partner organization, which will handle applications and all subsequent hiring steps. The hiring company is looking for a People Operations & System Specialist located in the United States.

This position blends hands-on people operations work with HR systems administration. It focuses on supporting employees through the full lifecycle while keeping HR processes accurate, scalable, and efficient. The role is remote-first and fast-paced, and it involves working across onboarding, payroll, benefits, and compliance. In parallel, you will own key HR systems, protect data quality, and help improve processes over time. The right person will be comfortable both assisting employees directly and managing the systems that keep HR operations running smoothly. You will partner closely with HR leadership, recruiting, and outside vendors to keep people programs moving effectively. This is a strong fit for an HR professional who is detail-oriented, highly systems-minded, and motivated by process improvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Handle HR operations across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, and contractor administration.
  • Assist with semi-monthly payroll processing alongside external payroll providers or PEO partners.
  • Oversee employee benefits administration and help with payroll, tax, and compliance activities.
  • Support People/HR leadership with the launch of new policies, initiatives, and programs.
  • Manage Employer of Record systems for international employees and contractors.
  • Coordinate recruiting tasks such as interview scheduling and candidate communications.
  • Look for ways to improve HR workflows through automation and system enhancements.
  • Serve as the main HRIS administrator for tools such as BambooHR, Remote, Notion, and Sequoia One.
  • Keep employee information accurate and current across all systems.
  • Create HR reports and dashboards to support compliance, planning, and decision-making.
  • Run regular audits to spot data issues and take corrective action.
  • Support system upgrades, integrations, and ongoing process improvements.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in HR, people operations, HRIS administration, or a similar function.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field is preferred, though equivalent experience can be considered.
  • Practical experience with HRIS platforms and maintaining clean, accurate HR data.
  • Solid knowledge of HR practices, employment law, and compliance obligations.
  • Experience supporting payroll coordination, benefits administration, and day-to-day HR operations.
  • Exposure to multi-state employment, contractor classification, or EOR systems is an advantage.
  • Background in a PEO-supported environment, or experience moving from one, is preferred.
  • Strong analytical ability with a detail-focused, data-driven approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support employees directly.
  • Good organization and problem-solving skills, especially in fast-moving or high-growth settings.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

Benefits

  • Annual compensation between $60,000 and $80,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Fully remote work based in the United States.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Flexible spending accounts for healthcare and dependent care.
  • Paid time off, floating holidays, and parental leave.
  • 401(k) plan with employer matching.
  • Chance to contribute in a mission-driven, high-impact healthcare environment.
  • Exposure to modern HR tools, systems, and scalable people operations practices.
  • Inclusive, collaborative culture that values learning, transparency, and continuous improvement.
