Pediatric Outpatient ACA - Fulltime Days

Role summary

This position is part of Yale New Haven Health’s outpatient pediatric care environment and is designed to support patient-centered care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities

• Provide care that reflects each patient’s preferences, values, and needs, while supporting coordinated and compassionate service.
• Collect the age-appropriate care details requested by the RN and/or licensed provider.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with patients, families, and all members of the care team to support better outcomes and a stronger patient experience.
• Work respectfully with people from different age groups and diverse cultural, educational, socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, lifestyle, and physical ability backgrounds.
• Operate collaboratively within nursing and interdisciplinary teams, using open communication and mutual respect.

• Complete rooming workflow tasks, including patient identification, introduction of self and role, escorting patients to exam or procedure rooms, and preparing patients for the visit.
• Perform assigned clinical tasks as allowed by scope of practice, such as vital signs, height, weight, blood pressure, EKG, specimen collection, phlebotomy, INR, pulse oximetry, and point-of-care testing, as applicable.
• Handle administrative tasks such as sending and receiving medical records and abstracting new patient records into EPIC.
• Set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol and other environmental support needs within scope.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Completion of an approved and accredited postsecondary medical assisting program, Nursing Assistant Program, or Patient Care Associate training is required.
• Preferred background includes 12 to 18 months of experience as a Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or Patient Care Associate, ideally in an outpatient clinical setting or a similar patient care environment.
• Clinical competency is expected.
• Preferred current medical assisting credential, certification, or registration that is accepted by the Connecticut Department of Public Health.
• Strong verbal, written, and nonverbal communication skills are needed for interaction with patients, families, peers, and the interdisciplinary team.
• Flexibility is important, including the ability to adjust priorities and revise work plans according to patient, unit, and care-team needs.
• Professional and tactful communication is required across internal and external contacts.
• Physical ability to lift at least 40 pounds is required.
• Ability to perform work requiring stamina, endurance, dexterity, and consistent use of proper body mechanics is expected.
