About the Role
Surge Staffing is hiring a service-oriented, detail-driven Payroll Support Specialist to support its expanding team. In this position, you will help branch offices with payroll processing, Time & Labor system support, and general payroll questions.
The right candidate communicates clearly, enjoys assisting others, and can solve problems while maintaining a high level of customer service. You should be able to juggle multiple priorities, protect sensitive information, and stay composed in a fast-moving environment while ensuring payroll support is accurate and completed on time.
Core Responsibilities
Payroll Support
- Help branch teams enter and process payroll accurately and within required timelines.
- Respond to payroll questions, concerns, and troubleshooting needs from branches.
- Work toward quick and effective resolution of payroll-related issues.
- Provide guidance to branch staff on how to resolve payroll issues affecting temporary employees.
Time & Labor System Support
- Act as a key support contact for the Time & Labor platform used across branch locations.
- Walk users through system steps and recommended practices.
- Investigate technical or process issues and escalate them when appropriate.
Payroll Administration
- Maintain employee records in internal systems, including direct deposit enrollments and changes, wage garnishments, employment verification details, and other payroll updates.
- Protect the accuracy and confidentiality of employee and payroll data.
Customer Service and Issue Resolution
- Provide strong service to branch teams and other internal partners.
- Apply good judgment and discretion when resolving payroll matters.
- Develop positive working relationships through professional communication, active listening, and a helpful attitude.
- Go the extra mile to support branch operations whenever needed.
Qualifications
Required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with solid customer service and active listening abilities.
- Good analytical thinking and problem-solving capability.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Comfortable using computers and entering data accurately.
- Able to manage highly confidential information responsibly.
- Capable of performing well in a busy environment while staying calm under pressure.
Preferred
- Background in payroll, administration, customer service, or support work.
- Exposure to payroll, HRIS, or Time & Labor systems.
- Experience training or assisting remote teams.
