About the Role
Surge Staffing is hiring a meticulous, service-minded Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations for temporary workers. In this position, you will handle payroll processing, keep records accurate and complete, manage compliance items such as garnishments and support orders, and assist branch teams with payroll-related needs.
The right person will be comfortable in a busy environment, able to juggle several priorities at once, and focused on accuracy while solving problems efficiently.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collect payroll inputs from timesheets, time clocks, electronic tools, and other approved customer records.
- Enter payroll information accurately, including deductions, reimbursements, and other adjustments.
- Check submitted time records and payroll data for accuracy before processing.
- Set up and update direct deposit enrollments.
- Review, process, and record child support and medical support orders.
- Handle wage garnishments and tax levies in line with requirements.
- Keep payroll files organized, complete, and correct.
- Confirm the validity of payroll documents and related information.
- Respond to payroll questions from branch offices and deliver reliable customer support.
- Investigate and fix payroll discrepancies, system problems, and employee concerns.
- Take incoming calls and provide payroll assistance as needed.
- Join training sessions for field staff.
- Help with special payroll assignments and other administrative tasks.
- Take on additional duties needed to support smooth day-to-day operations.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to work across multiple systems and software tools.
- Comfort with basic math and data entry work.
- Strong attention to detail and good organizational habits.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Prior experience in payroll, administration, customer service, or a similar business role is preferred.
- Background in a high-volume, fast-moving workplace is an advantage.
