Role Overview
The Payroll Specialist plays a key role in the People Excellence team, ensuring timely and precise payroll processing alongside delivering exceptional service across the business. Responsibilities include comprehensive payroll administration, data integrity maintenance, compliance adherence, stakeholder query management, and supporting continuous improvement and annual processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute payroll processing accurately and promptly in collaboration with outsourced payroll providers.
- Manage employee lifecycle events, including onboarding, changes, and terminations.
- Maintain and update payroll records, master data, and documentation.
- Reconcile payroll data across multiple systems and assist with payroll-related payments.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, awards, policies, and audit standards.
- Provide payroll-related support and reporting for People & Culture, Finance, and other departments.
- Address payroll queries by delivering attentive customer service.
- Contribute ideas and participate in payroll projects, process enhancements, and self-service initiatives.
- Support month-end activities, annual payroll routines, and generate ad hoc reports.

Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience managing end-to-end payroll processing within the Australian environment.
- Experience utilizing time and attendance systems effectively.
- Comprehensive understanding of payroll legislation, compliance, and award interpretation.
- Strong customer orientation paired with excellent communication abilities.
- Advanced numerical and analytical skills, including proficiency in Excel.
- Exceptional attention to detail with capability to handle high-volume workload efficiently.
- A resilient and positive attitude focused on solution-finding.
- Confidentiality and discretion with sensitive payroll information.
Preferred Experience
- Prior involvement with outsourcing payroll and using ADP Payforce.
- Familiarity with UKG (Kronos) and SAP systems.
- Knowledge of New Zealand payroll regulations.
- Experience managing superannuation and payroll tax matters.
