Position Overview
The Payroll Specialist is essential to guaranteeing accurate and punctual payroll processing for all employees. Responsibilities span managing the full payroll cycle, including computation of wages, deductions, and taxes following all federal, state, and local laws. This role involves maintaining detailed payroll records, balancing payroll accounts, and working closely with human resources and finance departments to rectify any discrepancies. Ensuring compliance with regulations, timely employee payments, and supporting audit processes are key outcomes of this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute precise and timely payroll processing using software platforms Ultipro and PeopleSoft.
- Calculate and withhold all necessary payroll taxes, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain updated payroll records covering employee data, tax information, and benefit deductions.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and collaborate across departments to address discrepancies efficiently.
- Prepare and file payroll tax submissions to governmental bodies within required deadlines.
- Provide prompt and professional responses to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters including deductions and tax withholdings.
- Support payroll audits by preparing documentation and reports for internal and external review.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- At least two years of professional experience handling payroll in a corporate setting.
- Expertise in payroll systems, particularly Ultipro and PeopleSoft.
- Comprehensive understanding of federal and state payroll tax legislation applicable in the United States.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities to manage concurrent payroll cycles and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).
- Experience managing payroll processes across multiple states with compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with various payroll software and HR information systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and payroll reporting purposes.
- Background in payroll operations within large corporations or multi-location environments.
