Job description
Overview
An established housing association in Edinburgh is hiring a Payroll Officer to join its Finance team on a permanent basis. The role offers a hybrid pattern, a collaborative team culture, and the opportunity to oversee an important payroll function from end to end.
The position works closely with HR to make sure payroll is processed accurately and within required timeframes. It is suited to someone who is confident handling a busy payroll operation and wants ownership of a key finance process.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will manage the full payroll cycle, ensuring staff are paid correctly and on time while staying aligned with payroll rules, compliance requirements, and reporting obligations. The job combines payroll administration, pension administration, reconciliations, statutory submissions, and support for payroll systems.
Key Duties
- Run the monthly payroll process from beginning to end and meet all scheduled deadlines.
- Send payroll data to HMRC and pension providers accurately and within the required timelines.
- Check and balance payroll records, including overtime, expenses, deductions, and pension contributions.
- Assist with payroll system changes, user testing, and improvements to payroll processes.
Requirements
To be considered, you should already have experience in a Payroll Officer or Payroll Administrator role and have worked with a computerised payroll system. A strong grasp of payroll software and Microsoft Office is needed, along with a careful eye for detail, good troubleshooting ability, and the judgment to handle confidential information appropriately. You should also be organised, comfortable working to deadlines, and able to manage a varied workload.
Desirable Background
A formal payroll qualification would be an advantage. Experience within a housing association, charity, public sector, or not-for-profit setting would also be beneficial.
Working Arrangements
This is a full-time position based in Edinburgh with hybrid working. The role is for 35 hours per week and offers two days each week in the office, although attendance may be higher during the initial training and onboarding period.
Compensation
The salary for this position is 31,428 per year.
