Payroll Officer - Fixed Term Contract

About Auckland One Rail and the Role

Auckland One Rail is seeking a skilled Payroll Officer to join their People & Culture team on a fixed-term contract until 31 December 2026. This position has become available due to a team transition and ensures continuous and accurate payroll services for the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensuring precise entry and extraction of payroll data when necessary.
• Loading new employees and updating changes within the payroll portal.
• Processing payroll transactions with accuracy and efficiency.
• Maintaining comprehensive payroll records and employee information.
• Interpreting employment contracts, terms, and payroll legislation accurately.
• Generating payroll reports and assisting management with payroll-related data analysis.
• Supporting payroll system upgrades and identifying opportunities for process enhancements.
• Addressing payroll inquiries with excellent customer service.
• Helping to maintain payroll compliance and administrative tasks.
• Collaborating effectively within the People & Culture team to meet critical payroll deadlines.

Candidate Requirements

• Between three to five years of experience working in payroll roles.
• Proficiency with Chris21, i-chris, or equivalent payroll software.
• Solid understanding of payroll legislation and employment agreements.
• Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
• Exceptional attention to detail ensuring high accuracy in payroll tasks.
• Strong organisational ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information responsibly.
• Experience within unionised workplace environments is highly desirable.
