Job description

About OES

Online Education Services (OES) is a purpose-led organisation focused on improving lives through education. Working with universities, training providers, and professional associations around the world, the company creates immersive and engaging learning experiences. Its teams are encouraged to stay student-centred, embrace innovation, adapt to change, and approach work with a growth mindset to help deliver OES’s aim of becoming the world’s most impactful enabler of education.

The business promotes teamwork, varied project exposure, and meaningful challenges, with a culture built on trust and empowerment.

Role overview

OES is seeking a meticulous Payroll Officer to join its Finance team in Melbourne, with a hybrid working arrangement. This position is central to delivering payroll accurately, on time, and in line with all relevant compliance requirements. The successful person will help interpret awards and agreements, resolve complex pay situations across a diverse workforce that includes remote and global employees, and contribute to payroll process and system improvements as legislation and internal controls evolve.

Key responsibilities

  • Run end-to-end fortnightly payroll for approximately 1,500 staff across office-based and remote teams.
  • Make sure payroll activity meets statutory requirements such as PAYG, superannuation, and payroll tax obligations.
  • Keep employee payroll, leave, and employment records accurate and up to date.
  • Maintain and improve payroll allocation workflows that rely on spreadsheets.
  • Assist with month-end work, including reconciliations and journal postings.
  • Handle payroll questions and provide clear, accurate guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Work through complex payroll matters such as award interpretation, back-pay, and global workforce arrangements.
  • Contribute to payroll process enhancements and broader system improvement initiatives.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate will bring 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in end-to-end payroll, along with practical exposure to payroll systems. Strong Excel capability is essential, including formulas, pivot tables, and complex spreadsheet work. Experience in environments with multiple awards, mixed workforce types, and variable working hours will be highly relevant. You should be highly organised, accurate, comfortable handling confidential information, and able to communicate and solve problems effectively.

What’s in it for you

  • Hybrid flexibility, with 2 to 3 days each week based in the Cremorne office and the rest of the time working from home or another location of your choice.
  • Access to a collaborative, energetic, and experienced team with strong development opportunities.
  • Professional development and mentoring support.
  • Participation in culture-focused activities and events.
  • Health and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Annual flu shots.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Purchased leave options.
  • Study support and leave for eligible employees.
  • Mental health support resources and an employee assistance program.
  • Income protection insurance.
  • Corporate health insurance discounts.
  • Employee benefits platform with retail discounts and novated leasing.
  • Office perks including breakfast, snacks, table tennis, Nintendo Switch, and weekly staff drinks.

Additional information

OES is committed to building an inclusive and diverse workplace and encourages applications from candidates of all nationalities, ages, backgrounds, disability statuses, and gender identities. The organisation welcomes applicants who feel aligned with the role to submit their CV and cover letter for consideration.
